Why a Hygiene Pantry?
Cleanliness generates pride in oneself, higher levels of self-esteem, personal comfort, and dignity. Personal cleanliness is crucial to decreasing the spread of germs and preventing illnesses. When people in the community strive to improve hygiene practices, many health problems are decreased and even eliminated. In turn, health costs are reduced.
Thousands in the county struggle to observe good hygiene practices because they cannot regularly afford the basic, non-food household goods related to personal care. They are not only in economic poverty but are also in “hygiene poverty.”
Just as food pantries are a great need in Vermilion County, so is the need for basic personal care.
